Surya Arpan
🌼 Short Story
As the first light of dawn touches the riverbanks, women in vibrant sarees stand in devotion, offering Arghya to the Sun God during Chhath Puja. Diyas glow, palms sway gently, and prayers rise with the morning mist.
This hand-painted Madhubani saree captures that sacred moment of faith and celebration — where tradition, nature, and devotion come together in timeless harmony.
🌼 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
🌼 Fabric & Craft
Crafted on rich Tussar Ghicha Silk, this saree showcases the natural texture and sheen of traditional silk. Each motif is individually hand-painted by skilled Mithila artisans, preserving the heritage of Madhubani storytelling.
For this saree, the artisans have carefully illustrated scenes inspired by Chhath Puja, one of the most sacred festivals dedicated to the Sun God. Using traditional Madhubani techniques, each element — from the devotee offering Arghya to Surya Dev, to the glowing diyas, palm trees and floral motifs — is painted freehand with remarkable patience and precision.
No two pieces are ever identical. Subtle variations in brush strokes and colour intensity are the natural signature of handmade art.
Depending on the complexity of the artwork, a single saree like this may take nearly three weeks of careful hand painting to complete — transforming the fabric into a living canvas of devotion and cultural heritage.
🌼 Theme – Chhath Puja Celebration
The artwork narrates the sacred rituals of Chhath Puja, a festival dedicated to the Sun God.
The pallu depicts a devotee offering prayers to Surya Dev, surrounded by ritual scenes symbolising faith, gratitude, and devotion.
🌼 Symbolism in the Artwork
Traditional Madhubani elements bring deeper meaning to the design:
• Surya (Sun God) – Source of life and divine energy
• Arghya Ritual Scene – Devotion offered at sunrise
• Diyas (Earthen Lamps) – Light, purity, and hope
• Palm Trees – Nature’s abundance and prosperity
• Lotus & Floral Motifs – Spiritual awakening and beauty
